Spiked apple cider usually comes with bourbon, rye, or rum at the base. This gem from Georgie Bar at the Montage Beverly Hills uses reposado tequila instead, and it’s genuinely amazing how well it works. The vegetal-oak accents of the tequila play surprisingly well with the spice-fruit notes of the cider, and the entire concoction is balanced by agave nectar and fresh lemon juice. Not sweet enough for you? Dip the rock candy garnish into the drink until it is. The drink is titled Cider House Rules, and boy does it.
Here’s the complete recipe:
- 6 oz reposado tequila
- 20 oz apple cider
- 6 oz agave syrup
- 4 oz fresh lemon juice
- Rock candy stick, for garnish
- Add all ingredients except the tequila and garnish to a small saucepan and bring to a simmer.
- Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer.
- Add tequila and serve in tea cups garnished with rock candy sticks.
