If You Like Cosmos, You’ll Love These 8 Drinks

By

It takes real commitment to stand by the Cosmo. The drink has been ridiculed by bartenders, mocked for its association with Sex and the City, and generally disregarded as a serious drinker’s cocktail. But if you’ve weathered these harassments and still call the Cosmo your favorite drink, you’ve earned not only our respect but our support. We’ve gathered a variety of Cosmo-esque drinks for your citrusy, cranberry-forward pleasure. Be proud, and drink on.

There’s no separating the Cosmopolitan from Sex and the City, so we leaned into it by commissioning a different Cosmo for each of the show’s heroines. This version made for Samantha by Rael Petit of New York’s Delilah layers ancho chile spice and sweet coconut on top of a cranberry-tequila cocktail for an intriguing new experience. This is the perfect concoction for reliving your favorite episodes, both from the show and your own Cosmo-riddled history.

While a cranberry juice-flecked Cosmo is appropriate any time of year, a fresh cranberry-forward Cobbler is the best way to celebrate fall (yes, even better than cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving). This vodka-spiked version of the Highball is perfect for the Cosmo drinker accustomed to a high-proof sipper, and its saturated with dark demerara sugar for an earthier take on your favorite citrusy drink.

Long before the Cosmo took over the cocktail scene with its blush allure, the Pink Lady was one of the reigning pink drinks. And just like the derided Cosmopolitan, the Pink Lady has been consistently underestimated. It gets its complexion and fruity flavor from grenadine, with an appley undercurrent from applejack, but it’s the gin that gives this bright cocktail its kick.

Gin
Applejack
Grenadine

We don’t really ascribe to gender stereotypes about our favorite cocktails, but if it would somehow bruise your delicate masculinity to order something with a “girly” name, then consider this masculine pink drink. Tequila mixes with pear syrup and lime juice to create a dazzlingly pink color, while ginger beer adds enough spice to put hair on your chest.

Innovating on a classic cocktail doesn’t always require swapping in new ingredients. This nouveau Cosmo simply alchemizes the classic’s flavors into a new form by chilling the drink with a cranberry-orange popsicle. The change not only provides a bit of wow factor to the old drink, but it also infuses the cocktail with new fruity flavors as the popsicle melts. The Cosmo has always been a fun drink, but this icy interpretation takes it to a new level.

The classic Cosmo is dangerously sippable, so if you’d like to drink to your fave cocktail to your heart’s content without fear, try this virgin twist. While the drink isn’t an exact reflection of the cocktail it augments, it does provide a similar fruity, sweet-sour taste, with various types of muddled citrus, grenadine and grape juice for jammy consistency.

Branching out into new cocktails can be hard for the die-hard Cosmo loyalist, but there’s a big, beautiful, boozy world out there. Take a baby step away from your old standby with this cocktail mashup, which mixes the Margarita’s sour and salty tequila profile with a dash of the Cosmo’s signature cranberry.

The Cosmo and Vodka Cran are two of a kind. Unlike the Cosmopolitan, which at least began as a well-balanced cocktail before transforming into a mess of saccharin and pop culture, the Vodka Cran has never really enjoyed a reputation as a complex cocktail—until this apple cider vinegar-infused version came around. Allspice and fresh cranberries infuse a sweet and spicy shrub, while vodka provides the oomph for a lowball version of the spritzy club drink.
