The 5 Easiest Coffee Cocktails

By

Coffee and alcohol make an easy, harmonious pairing, but when it comes to making coffee cocktails, the last thing you want to do is toil away with prep work and complex ingredients. We know you need your caffeine fix as quickly as possible—because the day doesn’t really start (or end) until you’ve had your coffee—so we collected the five easiest coffee cocktails that are essential for any coffee or booze lover.

This nightcap is just as easy to make as it is to drink. Hot coffee, amaretto liqueur and a topper of whipped cream (totally optional, but we believe you should indulge yourself) make a cocktail that is decadent and soul warming. There’s simply no better way to end an evening than with this libation. While you could technically serve it with a slice of pie, it’s sweet and rich enough to stand as dessert on its own.

Combine rum, RumChata (a cream liqueur based on horchata) and cold brew coffee for a spiked iced latte of sorts that’s one of the best—and booziest—ways to caffeinate at brunch. The drink is bittersweet, creamy and vanilla-rich all at once. After making one of these cocktails, you’ll quickly realize that you can never have brunch again without one.

If you can stomach the bitter herbaceousness of fernet, this brunch cocktail makes a wonderful accompaniment to a big breakfast. Ivy Mix, the owner of much lauded cocktail bar Leyenda, created this drink as a palatable way to introduce drinkers to Fernet-Vallet, a heartier Mexican take on the Italian Fernet-Branca you may be familiar with. Served with floral St-Germain liqueur and tonic water, this cocktail is a symphony of bitterness and effervescence.

Despite this shot-tail’s totally tone deaf name (it was definitely created before the #MeToo movement), it is a delicious amalgam of dessert liqueurs. A combination of equal parts vodka, coffee liqueur, amaretto and Irish cream, the Screaming Orgasm is decadent and deceptively potent. Take a few of these to wake yourself up at brunch and your day will turn into a screaming rager—which is actually probably a more appropriate name.

Of champions? Of hardcore revelers? We’re not sure what comes after the “Breakfast” in this drink’s name, but one thing is for sure: This breakfast cocktail is designed to get you amped up and extremely caffeinated. Fueling this cocktail is the coffee flavored energy drink Java Monster Mean Bean, which is paired with even more coffee, coffee liqueur and vodka. With layers and layers of coffee flavor, this cocktail hits you like a jolt to the chest from a defibrillator. If your heart can take it, there’s no better way to power through an epic day.
