Easter Egg Jello Shots Are Better Than Any Chocolate

By

It’s hard to get excited about Easter now that you’re grown and your belief in the Easter Bunny has been long shattered. As a kid, the best part about Easter was always the morning hunt, when you’d search for buried, sugary treasure trapped inside plastic technicolor eggs, but this nostalgic pastime becomes a lot less cute when you have a 401K. But fear not. Easter doesn’t have to merely serve as a reminder that your childhood years are over. You just have to find a way to “adult” the Easter egg hunt, and we have just the thing any full-grown Easter-lover would gladly scour the house for—Easter egg Jello Shots.

Note: When we were kids, our parents and grandparents had actual Jello molds that would form full Easter eggs. We’re not sure if this type of mold is extinct or simply difficult to find, so we substituted silicone molds instead. The eggs are flat on one side, but they’re still festive and incredibly delicious. Stock up on gelatin and make these three Jello Shot recipes for your next spring gathering.

Every Greek worth his or her moussaka has played the red egg game. A couple days before Easter Sunday, someone dyes a batch of eggs bright red. During the big meal, everyone picks an egg and takes turns tapping them against each other, large end to large end and small end to small end. Whoever is left with an uncracked egg at the end of the game is awarded good luck for the rest of the year. Inspired by this festive tradition, we spiked classic cranberry vodka Jello shots with a little orange liqueur and topped them with a dollop of homemade whipped cream to represent a cute bunny cottontail. They’re just the right amount of sweet, just the right amount of tart and deliver the perfect after-dinner buzz.

Gin and ginger are a match made in cocktail heaven. Spicy ginger complements gin’s floral, herbal botanicals to reach a balanced flavor that goes down easy anytime of year. Add some sparkling lemonade to the mix, and you have quite the refreshment on your hands. We took it one step further by turning this boozy, sparkling treat into Jello, which is perfect for serving at your next springtime gathering. Sprinkle these jiggly shots with pink sugar to transform them into a beautiful Easter dessert that is a surefire crowd-pleaser.

If you’re a Jello Shot novice, this limeade vodka recipe is a perfect place to start. Inspired by the fresh green grass that delivers one of the first signs of spring, it’s a light, sweet recipe that’s perfect for serving at Easter or any other warm-weather gathering. We used a pack of lime Jell-O, unflavored gelatin for extra stability and not-too-sweet San Pellegrino Limonata soda. Spike the mixture with vodka, and you have a refreshing, boozy and ridiculously easy dessert on your hands.
