Turn Your Favorite Girl Scout Cookies into Cocktails

By

You wait all year for that order form to appear, tacked onto the break room bulletin board. Finally, it’s Girl Scout Cookie season, the most glorious time of the year. So you spend way too much of your paycheck on an immense shipment and, upon receiving it, scarf down the first 10 boxes in less time than it takes to recite the Girl Scout Law. Now what? In order to make your precious haul last until next year’s cookie season, you’re going to need to figure out a way to stretch those boxes out—while still satisfying your cookie cravings. These Girl Scout cookie cocktails are just the thing to fuel your obsession. Inspired by (and garnished with) the four most popular Girl Scout Cookies—Samoa, Thin Mint, Tagalong and Trefoil—these boozy dessert drinks will keep you satisfied all year round.

If there was a Girl Scout cookies cult (and you could argue that there is), the Samoa would be its leader. First to fly off the tables outside grocery stores, the combination of toasted coconut and gooey caramel atop a crunchy, chocolate-bottomed biscuit is worshipped by its sweet-toothed followers. Our drinkable take on the cookie pairs tropical coconut cream with caramel-tinged dark rum, plus a splash of honey liqueur and chocolate bitters. For the perfect finishing touch, the rim is coated in sticky caramel syrup and toasted coconut flakes. It’s a sweet and crunchy snack to enjoy between sips.

If you haven’t popped a sleeve of Thin Mints into the freezer before eating them, then you haven’t lived. Inspired by the iconic, frozen mint chocolate cookie, this creamy spiked milkshake is made with vodka, vanilla ice cream, chocolate and crème de cacao. Fernet Branca Menta gives it a complex edge that let’s you know this is definitely a grown-up drink. It’s at once decadent and refreshing, improved only by the real deal frozen cookie as a garnish.

Inspired by the Tagalong, that chocolate-covered, melt-in-your-mouth, peanut butter patty, this decadent hot cocoa combines creamy chocolate with nutty Frangelico liqueur and a salted peanut butter-infused whipped cream. It’s the perfect late night indulgence—one that will warm you from the inside out and lull you to cozy cocktail Nirvana.

The Trefoil will never let you down. Delicious without being flashy, the traditional shortbread cookie made famous by the Girl Scouts deserves a cocktail that’s just as iconic and just as simple. This Trefoil Old Fashioned evokes buttery shortbread with brown butter fat-washed bourbon, with some added sweetness from homemade vanilla sugar and orange bitters. The crushed up shortbread rim gives it a whimsical touch. Whip one up and earn your classic cocktail badge.
