Red, Blue and Purple Cocktails for the 2016 Election

The 2016 election has driven everyone to drink—except, of course, for stupid spoilsport teetotaling Donald. As long as imbibing is inevitable, though, you might as well have fun with your choice of cocktails. (You remember fun, right?) Herewith: a red cocktail for Republicans, a blue drink for Democrats and a purple potable for those few, precious undecided voters out there. And feel free to drink outside of party lines. In this election, anything goes.

A nod to the birthplace of our outgoing leader, President Obama, this tropical blue cocktail is a vacation in a glass—something we all need after the past few months of constant campaigning and high-intensity debates. Made with both rum and vodka, it packs more of a kick than you might think, just like any seemingly mild mannered politician.

The Essentials

light rum
blue curaçao
Pineapple Juice
There’s no need to make an Americano great again—it never stopped being awesome. A bracing, bittersweet mix of Campari, sweet vermouth and club soda, it’s a delicious low ABV spritz. Perfect for sipping continuously through a long night of election results.

The Essentials

Sweet Vermouth
Club Soda
For the undecided voters, a stiff drink to help them form a definite opinion. Made with gin, maraschino liqueur, lemon juice and creme de violette (for both a delicate floral flavor and pale purple hue), it’s friendly enough to sway any wishy-washy drinker over to its side—and strong enough to secure a second round.

The Essentials

Crème de Violette
