The Cosmopolitan may have a legitimate origin story, but that has been entirely overshadowed by the role it played in Sex and the City. Frequently sipped by the four fashionable, fictional ladies of SATC, the pink drink is iconic for anyone who identifies as a Miranda, a Carrie, a Charlotte or a Samantha. To honor the show that made it famous, we decided to give the cocktail a few thematic updates. Here, four Cosmopolitan variations inspired by each of the ladies’ personalities. Strap on your best pair of Manolos, mix one up, and get to gabbing on the phone (landline, of course) about work struggles, sexcapades and the trials and tribulations you’re facing with your own Mr. Big (we all have one).
If there was one thing Carrie Bradshaw cared about almost as much as finding the perfect man, it was luxury—just look at her closet. Made with Grand Marnier, premium vodka, a float of effervescent Champagne and pomegranate (a known aphrodisiac), this sparkling Cosmo would definitely live up to Carrie’s high standards.

A consummate professional, Miranda Hobbes inspired this no-nonsense Cosmo. It has a bitter base of Campari in place of vodka but, just like Miranda, there’s a layer of sweetness hidden underneath that strong exterior. Cranberry juice and Cointreau balance the drink out, revealing a hidden softer side, while a touch of salt ties everything together.

Prim, proper and always striving for perfection, Charlotte York would love this ultra-feminine White Cosmopolitan. Created by Kevin Denton, National Mixologist at Pernod-Ricard, this crisp and refreshing cocktail is made with tart Absolut Lime vodka, white cranberry juice, St-Germain and a sprig of mint. Though she was a stickler for tradition, we think Charlotte would approve of this elegant and not too crazy variation on the classic, whose clear contents would pose no risk of staining her tennis whites.

Lime Vodka
White Cranberry Juice

Everyone’s favorite party girl with a blush-worthy sexual openness, Samantha Jones deserves a cocktail that’s as wild and adventurous as she is. Created by Rael Petit of New York’s Delilah, this daring tequila-based Cosmopolitan gets a spicy heat from Ancho Reyes chile liqueur, and a complex, layered sweetness from coconut sugar syrup. It still has the heart of traditional Cosmo, but its intriguing, spicy-sweet flavor is anything but predictable.
