The Vodka Martini is a true vodka lover’s drink. With nothing but vermouth’s flavor to augment the spirit, be sure to pick a quality vodka that you would willingly sip straight. Ask for it extra dry if you’re just looking for an excuse to drink straight vodka in a cocktail bar.

The Essentials

Vodka
Dry vermouth

This take on a Vesper, which infamously doubles down on a Martini with a combo of both vodka and gin, takes things to another level by adding a touch of Japanese whisky, as well as lavender-infused Cocchi Americano in place of vermouth. With a lemon twist, it’s just a bit floral and citrusy, but still mostly a triple threat of booze.

The Essentials

Gin Mare
You and Yours Vodka

The Russian Qualude is a pretty ridiculous drink, not only because the name is intentionally spelled wrong. This tall relative of the White Russian layers several liqueurs on top of 1.5 ounces of vodka. But don’t underestimate this creamy concoction—all of those milky liqueurs still add booze to the towering cocktail.

vodka
coffee liqueur
hazelnut liqueur

Without the White Russian’s signature cream, the Black Russian is a slim boozy package. One of the easiest cocktails to make (and to drink) this simple combo of two parts vodka to one part Kahlúa (or your chosen coffee liqueur) packs a much greater punch than its famous cousin.

Vodka
Kahlua

Don’t be fooled by the flavored vodkas in this punch; it can go toe to toe with a Scorpion Bowl for strongest tropical cocktail. While it lacks the rums of that traditional tiki libation, it does layer on the floral flavors with coconut and clementine vodkas, along with a whole lot of straight vodka for good measure. Watermelon, passion fruit, guava and pineapple all make this punch seem perfectly approachable—just watch out for the wallop of vodka lurking in its depths.

The Essentials

Vodka
watermelon purée
Passion fruit
