The Gin Spa Is Every Gin Lover’s Dream

By

Say you love everything gin. Whether it’s a night full of Gin & Tonics and Martinis, or gin flavored cheese, there seems to be nothing that isn’t improved with a splash of the herbaceous spirit. If you’re that person (or just someone who appreciates gin even a little bit), then you need to book a flight to Glasgow, Scotland, stat to visit the world’s first gin spa.

The aptly and succinctly named Gin Spa opened in the Merchant City area of Glasgow in December 2017. It was made by the people who started Gin71, which was the city’s first dedicated gin bar, so you can trust the employees know their stuff. You might think that a spa is a strange business decision for bar owners, but is there any better way to detox and relax after a long night out than being pampered in a Gin Spa?

Gin Spa is all about relaxation, and not just the spirituous kind. While all of the treatments are non-alcoholic, they are based on the botanicals commonly found in gin. Guests choose their favorite aromatherapy oil, and then a treatment is chosen based on how you’d like to feel afterward, according to The Drinks Business. Happy is centered around pink grapefruit, lime and bergamot, while Tranquil is based on cedarwood, lavender and geranium. Other feelings include Active, Pure, Detox and Energized.

And no trip to the Gin Spa would be complete without a little actual gin. A drinks trolley run by the beloved premium drink mix company Fever Tree delivers a complimentary cocktail pairing for your treatment as soon as it ends. There’s also the Twilight Tasting package, which includes a five-course tasting menu inspired by gin.

Spas based on alcohol aren’t entirely new. There’s the Bjórböðin Icelandic beer spa, as well as the Japanese sake pools. Nothing seems as elevated and classy as an aromatic spa treatment based on gin, though. Sign us up.
