A Tim Burton Bar Is Coming to Hollywood

By

A lot of Los Angelenos must have been crying “Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!” because the City of Angels is getting a ghoulish, Tim Burton-themed bar. Beetle House opened in New York last year, with decorations celebrating popular Burton films like Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and, of course, Beetlejuice. Now, L.A. is getting the same treatment, though the ever-competitive West Coasters are upping the game with interactive decor and actors in character marauding about the bar (this is Hollywood, after all).

According to Los Angeles Magazine, the L.A. outpost will appear inside the Prospect Theater on May 20, complete with Beetlejuice’s miniature town built on the bar’s stage. Costumed actors won’t just be serving drinks, but interacting heavily with guests. Concept creator Zach Neil summarizes the experience: “You’re eating dinner and this psycho Beetlejuice guy with a hand buzzer is sitting at your table eating off your plate.” Of course, the food and drink will match the macabre theme. The menu includes drinks like the Fleet Street Martini with Fireball, Sour Apple Pucker, cranberry juice and red sugared rim, and the Coco Skellington made with Bacardi Rum, creme de coconut, lime juice and orange blossom water.

Neil is responsible for a number of other bars themed for cult classic films, such as Stay Classy, the Will Ferrell bar that also began in New York and similarly popped up in L.A., as well as a George Costanza-themed bar that popped up in Melbourne, Australia in early 2016. While the West Coast version of Beetle House is technically a temporary opening, the New York location proved popular enough to extend its own 45-day run well over a year, and is still open today. As Beetlejuice might say, “It’s showtime.”
