Spiked Bananas Foster Nice Cream

“Nice cream,” the ice cream alternative that swaps in bananas for the usual cream or custard, was originally invented as a healthy-ish substitute to the frozen dessert, but it’s grown into a tasty treat in its own right—one that happens to be super simple to make. This version was inspired by the classic rum-soaked New Orleans dessert, Bananas Foster. It’s everything you love about the flaming showstopper transformed into one epic dessert.

8 oz dark rum
2 oz banana liqueur
4 bananas
1 Cup Sugar
.25 Cup Butter
.5 tsp cinnamon
1 handful chopped nuts
2-4 oz milk (optional)


  • Cut bananas lengthwise, then cut each slice in half.
  • Combine butter, sugar and cinnamon in a skillet. Cook over low heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  • Stir in banana liqueur, then place banana slices in the pan and cook until they start to brown.
  • Add 2 ounces of dark rum and carefully tip pan to ignite.
  • Wait until flames subside, then remove bananas from pan.
  • Set two banana slices aside, then add remaining bananas to a blender and blend.
  • Add up to 6 ounces dark rum and blend again. Make sure the consistency doesn’t get too loose. Add 2-4 ounces of milk if using. Blend again.
  • Pour the mix into freezer-safe tub and fold in a handful of nuts.
  • Chill for at least an hour, or until set.
  • Scoop into a bowl, garnish with reserved bananas and more nuts.
