Bottled Americano

The Americano is one of the most perfectly balanced cocktails. It’s bitter, sweet and refreshingly effervescent. In Italy, Campari makes something called Campari Soda (essentially an Americano sans sweet vermouth) that can be purchased at the grocery store pre-mixed, bottled and in six-packs. Sadly, Americans have yet to catch on, and the product is currently unavailable stateside. Fortunately, it’s easy to make your own version of the bittersweet bottled cocktail at home. All you need are bottles, caps, a capper, soda water and booze. Now, fixing yourself an Americano is as easy as opening your fridge and grabbing a bottle.

Note: Makes enough for 12 x 6-oz Champagne bottles. Before attempting, consult our guide to bottling cocktails.

12 oz Campari
Soda Water
Zest from 1 orange (with little to no pitch)

  • Add the sweet vermouth and Campari to a large bowl or pitcher.

  • Refrigerate overnight with the peels still in the mix.
  • Strain out the peels.
  • Prepare 12 6-oz Champagne bottles and crown caps by boiling them and drying them.
  • Pour 2 ounces of the pre-batched cocktail into the bottles using a funnel and a jigger.
  • Top with seltzer water, leaving about an inch of space at the top, and cap immediately using a capper.
  • Label with a sharpie (so you know what it is) and refrigerate.
