The Porch Napper Gin Bucket

If you’re not familiar with a Gin Bucket, it’s time to get savvy on this extra boozy American tradition. Its name makes it fairly self-explanatory, but let us elaborate. A gin bucket usually consists of a bottle or two of gin, dumped into a large bucket or other sizeable vessel, and mixed with things like Fresca, chopped fruit and ice. It’s then served, not in glasses, but directly into the mouths of imbibers via turkey baster. Being the patriots that we are, we decided to create our own gin bucket recipes to get in on this traditional, large-format libation.

We’re big fans of Cheerwine at Supercall, that sticky-sweet, cherry-flavored soda that’s been made by the same North Carolina family for more than 100 years. It reminds us of warm mornings spent on white sand beaches and lazy afternoons sipping ice cold drinks on front porch rocking chairs. The Porch Napper Gin Bucket conjures those feelings of finding purpose in not really doing anything at all while enjoying life with a tall glass of sugary beverage. Seersucker Southern Style Gin is a perfect match for the soft drink, as its notes of citrus, clove, honey and mint pair perfectly with Cheerwine’s rich cherry flavor. Lime juice brightens the mix while bubbly club soda tempers the sweetness and adds some extra carbonation. Whether you’re mixing up a batch for a big family dinner or a raging summer bash, this cheery cherry gin bucket will make everyone forget their troubles for a glassful.
