Invented in the late 1950s at the Holiday Isle Tiki Bar in Islamorada, Florida, the Rum Runner was named in honor of the heroic “rum-runners” who brought illegal liquor into the U.S. It has since become a tiki stalwart, with its mix of both light and dark rums along with fruit juices and liqueurs. While this recipe uses equal amounts of each ingredient, it can easily be tweaked to make any one of the flavors more pronounced depending on your preference.

1 oz Pineapple Juice
1 oz Orange Juice
1 oz Blackberry Liqueur
1 oz Banana Liqueur
1 oz Light Rum
1 oz Dark Rum
splash of Grenadine
orange wheel, for garnish


  • Add all ingredients to a shaker and fill with ice.
  • Shake and strain into a double Old-Fashioned glass or snifter over fresh ice. Garnish with the orange wheel. 

Mix it Up

Make it a blended drink by adding all of the ingredients to a blender with two cups of ice and blending until smooth.
