The three best patriotic holidays all happen during summer. Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day (and their related federal holidays) create a triple threat for warm weather partying. With so much America-loving and outdoor drinking to do, we needed a boozy treat that combines our loves of summer imbibing and our country (and three-day weekends). These colorful Jello Shots, served in ripe summer strawberries, are everything we could hope for between May and September.
Like any multicolored showstopper, this layered shot takes a good deal of prep work. First you have to hull out fresh strawberries (don’t get hubristic and start hacking away at the wall of the hallowed strawberry to make it bigger—that’s a quick way to puncture it and send yourself back to step one). Then you have to make a layer of blue Jell-O and curaçao, pour it into the strawberry cups and let it set. Then you have to make yet another layer from gelatin, sweetened condensed milk and vodka, top off the strawberries and let them set again. The whole process takes about 3-4 hours, but that’s a small price to pay for a lifetime of memories. You remember that time you made blinged out red, white and blue Jello Shots for everyone at your Fourth of July party? Because everyone who was at the party does.
