They don’t carry Fireball at Trick Dog in San Francisco. “But we do occasionally get calls for it, so we figured we'd make our own,” says Morgan Schick, the bar’s creative director. “It started out as an on-the-fly recipe and proved popular enough that we put it on the menu.” A mix of bourbon, cinnamon syrup and Becherovka, a spicy, clove-and-cinnamon laced Czech liqueur, it’s the perfect Friday night shot. At the bar, they make batches in advance and store them in the fridge. The recipe below is the 4-shot version, but can be scaled depending on how big a crew you're serving.
Trick Dog Fireball
1 oz Becherovka
4 oz Bourbon
.5 oz Cinnamon Syrup
- Add bourbon, Becherovka and cinnamon syrup to a resealable container such as a Mason jar.
- Stir to mix, refrigerate or freeze until chilled, then split into four shot glasses.
2 cinnamon sticks
.5 Cup water
1 Cup sugar
- Bring sugar and water to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar. Add cinnamon sticks and remove from heat. Steep cinnamon sticks until cool, then strain.
