Bacon, Egg and Whiskey

The Whiskey Sour is a tried and true cocktail staple, but there are times when you want something with a little more pizzaz.  Inspired by the best breakfast invention of all time—the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich—this variation on the Whiskey Sour uses frothy egg whites and a bacon-infused bourbon to give it a salty, savory depth. While this could make a delicious cocktail first thing in the morning, we recommend at least waiting until brunch.

Ingredients

0.5 oz Fresh Orange Juice
0.25 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
0.5 oz Honey Syrup
0.75 oz Egg Whites
2 dashes Orange Bitters
Orange Twist, for garnish

Method

  • Add all ingredients except for the garnish to a shaker tin and dry shake.
  • Crack the tin and add ice to the shaker. Shake again for at least one minute more.
  • Strain into a rocks glass and garnish with an orange twist and a piece of candied bacon.

Ingredients

1 Cup honey
1 Cup water

Method

  • Combine the water and honey in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce to a simmer and stir until honey dissolves, about 2 minutes. Immediately take the saucepan off the heat.
  • Let cool, then pour into a container and store in the refrigerator for up to one month.
